Halloween is near at hand, so you may be eager for the coming festivities. That makes sense – the big day will feature trick-or-treaters, parties, and many other fun things! However, you should be careful if you’re doing a clear aligner treatment. All Hallows’ Eve might ruin your trays (or vice-versa) otherwise. That said, your local Springfield dentist wants to keep that from happening. So, consider using these four crucial Invisalign tips for Halloween night.

Be Mindful of Your Trays

You may think it’s okay to have some candy while wearing Invisalign trays. Well, you’d be wrong; that act could upset the alignment process.

You see, you shouldn’t wear aligners during meals. Your bite could easily crack or otherwise damage them. In that case, you’d suffer treatment delays while your dentist looks for new trays.

With all that said, remove your trays before chewing any candy. Doing so will save you time, money, and hassle.

Time Your Treats Wisely

Like many on Halloween, you may want to snack on candy at all hours. Still, you really should avoid this action. It’d make you miss the proper Invisalign wear time.

If you didn’t already know, you should wear Invisalign trays for 20-22 hours daily. (Lesser amounts of time will delay your alignment results.) That timing only leaves a few hours for meals and teeth cleaning. Therefore, you must be wise about how much candy you eat and when.

If possible, only eat Halloween sweets at normal mealtimes. This setup benefits from the extra saliva in your mouth. Not only will you get candy, but your spit will wash away the lingering sugar on your teeth.

Clean Your Teeth Well

To be clear, Invisalign doesn’t have precise food restrictions. It won’t force you to give up your favorite Halloween candies. Even so, you’ll want to really clean your teeth after chowing down.

If you aren’t careful, you might re-insert your aligners while sugar clings to your teeth. Should that occur, you’d trap tooth-decaying materials on your enamel. Your risk of cavities would then increase.

Given this truth, clean your teeth after eating your candy. Only afterward should you put your Invisalign trays back on.

Stay Hydrated

To stay on the safe side, make sure to hydrate during Halloween. Washing down candy with water will do you loads of good.

Remember, sugar attracts harmful germs. The latter can then decay your teeth if they reach your enamel. Luckily, though, water gets rid of these microbes. Drinking it removes the bacteria that a toothbrush might miss. In doing so, it prevents bacterial acids from getting trapped beneath the trays.

With these Invisalign tips for Halloween night, your aligner journey will stay on track. Now, go ahead and memorize them before the holiday arrives!
