Gentle Care for Growing Smiles!

One common misconception about children’s dentistry is that it’s not important. After all, baby teeth fall out anyway, right? While that is true, growing smiles still need care since their teeth play a crucial role in everything from their self-esteem to their ability to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet. If you are interested in learning more about preventive care, including the different services we offer, give us a call or read on!

When Should My Child Go to the Dentist?

As we mentioned above, your child’s teeth play an important role in their confidence, their chewing power, and even their ability to enunciate clearly. That’s why preventive care is so important! In addition to brushing their teeth twice a day, you should bring them to our office twice a year (starting around their first birthday, or sooner if their first tooth comes in before that). That way, we can monitor their development, share how to care for their growing smile at home, and answer any questions you have about children’s dentistry.

Kids’ Dental Checkups & Cleanings

Routine dental visits with our Springfield dental team are beneficial for several reasons, including that they help us catch cavities in the early stages and clean the hard-to-reach areas of your child’s mouth that are often missed. Throughout the years, we’ll continuously look for common oral health problems, provide gentle but thorough cleanings, and share helpful feedback so they can take good care of their smiles at home.

Dental Sealants

As your child’s fine motor skills are developing, it may be hard for them to properly clean their teeth, particularly their molars. Fortunately, there’s a solution: dental sealants. If we decide together that this preventive treatment is ideal, then we will apply a thin layer of composite resin. Once it has hardened in place, it will effectively seal off food particles, plaque, and other debris, reducing their risk of tooth decay.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a mineral that is known for its ability to prevent cavities (that’s why it’s in so many oral hygiene products!). It can also be used to strengthen enamel and reverse early signs of decay. So, you can see how fluoride treatments can be helpful, particularly for growing smiles! All we need to do is apply a fluoride varnish to your child’s teeth following their routine cleaning. It only takes a few minutes, but it can make a big difference in preventing decay.
